Why not have the federal government legalize gambling in the whole nation?

Cyprus! asked:

I heard that states can decide this but what if the federal government added an ammendment to the constitution or something similar legalizing gambling throughout every state and DC?

    Your question is incoherent.

Why would they do that? Our government is based upon state’s being able to make their own decisions. The Federal Government tells states that they can allow it if they WANT TO, but that they do not have to.

Gambling is not illegal. The sale of alcohol is not illegal. Congress cannot legalize something that is not illegal.

States have the option of allowing casinos or not. I don’t think it is a good idea for the national government to force states to allow casinos to open in their states especially if the voters decide that they do not want them.
