Can an online gambling website make a negative report on your credit report?

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009
Jason M asked:

I did not charge anything to an online gambling website, but I’ve received an email from them saying I did and threatening to post to my credit report. Can they do this? I never visited the site, certainly never signed anything, and I thought online gambling was illegal in the US anyway!
Despite Red Rover’s very helpful response, there are no lies here. I have no interest in gambling, and certainly wouldn’t be dumb enough to trust some offshored website.

More to the point, I have not seen any charges show up on my credit report. Normally, I’d think this was just a spam email (as was suggested), but the email included my full name and address, and social security number! They claimed to have already looked up my credit report, and would soon pass this debt on to a collections agency.

It sounds like everyone agrees that the legality of online gambling has no bearing on their ability to report to a credit bureau…
Oops… I should have said I have not seen any charges show up on my credit *card*, not credit report.

Does Washington state’s law against gambling on the internet mention poker?

Saturday, March 7th, 2009
Dilbert asked:

Some people consider poker to be a game of skill and some consider it to be a gambling game. Any law against gambling might or might not apply to poker, depending on whether the law defines poker to be gambling.

Does Washington state’s law against gambling on the internet define poker to be gambling? What are the exact words of that definition?

What happens if you are caught gambling at a casino, in Atlantic City, underage?

Saturday, March 7th, 2009
Kate <3 asked:

A friend and I were at a casino in AC gambling and we are both only 19. If you win under a certain amount you can cash in at a machine, and you don’t even have to talk to anyone to get your money…I was wondering though what would happen if we hit the jackpot and they found out we were underage? Would we get arrested? Someone said we would lose our liscense….? Does anyone know what would really happen?
